Benedictine Oblates

Do you want to help the monks?

Every day the monks pray the Divine Office, what Saint Benedict called the Work of God. You can join them spiritually and pray in association with them, using the Office or a similar form of prayer. You can also learn and follow some of the spirit and wisdom of Saint Benedict by attempting to lead a more perfect Christian life in the world according to the spirit of the Rule of Saint Benedict. Lay people who do this might wish to become an associate of the Community by becoming an Oblate and making a promise of commitment.

Lay Catholic men and women who become Oblates are under the spiritual guidance of the monastery and recommended to attend oblate meetings and retreats.

If you would like further information about becoming an Oblate, please write to: The Oblate Secretary, Ampleforth Abbey, York YO62 4EN.
